In the 16th and 17th century Flekkefjord had strong trade relations with the Netherlands, and many Dutch people settled in the town. Therefore, there is still an area in the town called Hollenderbyen. Today, Flekkefjord has a population of over 9000 inhabitants, and the town has its own hospital close to the center.

The most common and typical outdoor activity among Norwegians is hiking in the mountains and nature, or Sunday walks in the local area. Cross-country skiing is compulsory in winter.

DNT has 550 huts across Norway, and a network of 22,000 km of marked hiking trails and about 7,000 km of ski trails.

The local DNT website is unfortunately mostly in Norwegian, but it might still be worth taking a look at Flekkefjord og Oplands Turistforening, they also have a local Facebook group Flekkefjord og Oplands Turistforening (FOT).

The tourist information in Flekkefjord is located at the cultural center 'Spira' Elvegaten 1. Inside the main entrance in the main hall you will find a wall with brochures and a touch screen. On the screen you will get a lot of information about accommodation, restaurants, activities and much more in and around Flekkefjord.

The water park Sørlandsbadet is one of the most famous places in Lyngdal, it takes around 40 minutes to drive from Flekkefjord. Sørlandsbadet has both indoor and outdoor facilities, as well as a fitness center, wellness, cafe, physiotherapy and hiking trails. The indoor pool is open all year round and has several different attractions.
